Calder Gate Repair Los Angeles stocks, welds, and installs Viking-compatible gate components, with most fabrication and welding jobs running $350 to $900 installed across the LA metro. We carry Viking hinge plates, gate frame sections, broken weld repairs, post reinforcements, and custom brackets for the most common Viking swing and slide models on the market. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a gate that suddenly drags on the driveway, a hinge that tears loose from the post, or a weld that cracks open after an earthquake or years of settling.
We’re an independent gate repair specialist, not affiliated with Viking, but we work on Viking hardware daily. When a Viking gate fails at the metal itself, it usually comes down to three things: heat, ground movement, or an original weld that was never quite right. Tell me what it’s doing wrong and I’ll tell you what it actually costs to fix it, before I pick up a tool.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking’s residential and light-commercial lineup spans multiple series, and the fabrication points differ between them. For Viking swing gates, the common failure points are hinge brackets at the post, the gate’s hinge-side vertical stile, and the corner joints where the frame rails meet. For Viking slide gates, we mostly see cracked rollers on the V-track system, bent track supports, and worn end stops. Viking cantilever slide gates fail at the internal frame welds where the counterweight section joins the gate body, a spot that carries a lot of torque as the gate hangs off the rollers.
The practical way to identify what you need is to look at the gate frame itself: measure the outside diameter of the tubing (1.5″, 2″, or 2.5″ square tube is most common on Viking gates in LA), check the hinge plate bolt pattern, and photograph the damaged area from three angles before calling. Some Viking hinge plates look interchangeable but have subtle offset differences between their Pro series and their older residential line. A wrong plate cocks the gate and accelerates hinge wear instead of fixing the problem.
On the OEM vs aftermarket question: we use Viking OEM hinge plates and hardware when they’re available from local suppliers in the City of Industry or Commerce, because the hole patterns and steel thickness match what’s already on your gate. For raw fabrication, like a cracked frame tube or a broken post reinforcement, a quality 12-gauge steel replacement is as strong or stronger than the original, and we weld it in place rather than bolting it.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags or scrapes at the free end. This usually means a hinge plate has started to pull loose from the post or the gate frame. In LA’s dry, shifting clay soil (looking at you, Sherman Oaks and Encino), posts move just enough to tear a weld that held fine for five years.
- You can see a visible crack at a corner weld or along the frame tube. Heat cycles and the constant open-close torque eventually find the weak point. A hairline crack today becomes a snapped frame tube in six months if you ignore it.
- The gate shudders or skips as it moves. On slide gates, this is a bent or broken V-track roller bracket. The gate rides up over the damage and drops, which hammers the motor and the track with every cycle.
- You hear metal grinding at the hinges. The hinge pin has worn through its bushing and is now grinding hinge-on-hinge. If it gets bad enough, the pin gauls and eventually locks the gate completely open or closed.
- The gate leans toward the driveway or street. The post itself has shifted. No amount of hinge adjustment fixes a post that’s out of plumb by two inches; the post needs to be cut, re-set, and reinforced with new steel.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we quote for Viking welding and fabrication work in Los Angeles, installed and warranted:
- Broken weld repair (one or two cracked joints): $180 to $350, depending on access and whether we’re working at ground level or standing on a ladder.
- Hinge plate replacement (per gate, both hinges): $280 to $500 for Viking-compatible plates, including cutting off the old ones and welding on the new.
- Gate frame crack repair with reinforcement sleeve: $350 to $550 for a cracked horizontal rail or stile. We cut back to clean metal, weld the crack, then sleeve a reinforcing section over it so it doesn’t fail the same way again.
- Post reinforcement or front post replacement: $450 to $800, depending on post size and concrete work. This includes setting the post plumb and re-hanging the gate so it swings true.
- V-track roller bracket and end stop replacement: $220 to $420 for Viking slide gate hardware.
- Custom bracket or mounting plate fabrication: $150 to $300 for a one-off piece welded to spec.
Every quote is written, line by line, before any work starts. The number on the invoice is the number you agreed to. Parts and labor are separate lines on the quote so you know exactly what you’re paying for. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every weld and every bracket we install: if it fails within 365 days, we make it right at no charge, including a free second visit.

Welding and structural gate repair is one place where we tell homeowners to stop before they start. A Viking gate weighs anywhere from 300 to 900 pounds. When a weld breaks under that kind of load, the gate can fold, drop, or swing uncontrolled. Grinding and welding require proper eye protection, fire-safety setup, and an understanding of how the gate’s weight is distributed so you don’t fix one crack and create two new ones.
What you can safely do is document what’s wrong. Take photos of the crack, the hinge plate, and the bolt pattern. Note whether the gate leans, scrapes, or shudders. Then call us at (213) 322-1415, send the photos, and get a written quote from a real person. The estimate is free.
FAQs
Most Viking gates in the LA area need hinge or weld attention somewhere between year 7 and year 12, depending on gate weight, usage cycles, and whether the original install was a bolt-on job or a proper structural weld. Coastal salt air in Santa Monica and Playa del Rey accelerates metal fatigue; inland heat and clay soil shifts cause post movement that tears hinges. Call (213) 322-1415 if your gate is leaning or cracking, and we’ll tell you whether it’s a small repair or a structural fix.
Most cracks in the frame tubing can be welded and reinforced with a steel sleeve, which is stronger than the original tube. We only recommend replacing a frame section when the crack has spread through more than one wall of the tube or the metal has fatigued across more than 18 inches. The call comes down to what we see: call (213) 322-1415 and we’ll give you a straight answer.
A simple broken weld repair takes one to two hours on site. A hinge plate pair, including cutting off the old plates and welding on new ones, takes two to three hours. Post reinforcement or replacement can take half a day, factoring concrete cure time for the new post base. We schedule around your access and send a live, trackable arrival time, not a four-hour window.
Our trucks carry the most common Viking hinge plates, V-track roller brackets, end stops, and 12-gauge steel stock for frame repairs across Los Angeles. If your job needs a specific Viking OEM part we don’t have on hand, we pull it from local suppliers in Commerce or City of Industry, usually same day. Call (213) 322-1415 with your model or a photo and we’ll confirm availability before we dispatch.
Ready When You Are
If your Viking gate is leaning, scraping, rattling, or cracked anywhere in the metal, call Calder Gate Repair Los Angeles at (213) 322-1415. You’ll talk to a live person, get a free estimate, and a written price before any tool touches your gate.
