If your Mighty Mule gate has a cracked weld, a bent mounting bracket, or a hinge assembly that’s tearing away from the post, you’re looking at a welding and fabrication repair that typically runs $225 – $475 installed in Los Angeles, depending on the damage and your gate’s weight. We stock Mighty Mule-compatible brackets, hinge reinforcements, and post-mount plates on our trucks, and most weld-and-fabrication repairs on swing gates are done the same day. The typical owner figures this out the hard way: the gate starts sagging, dragging on the driveway, or the opener pushes but the gate barely moves. That’s not a motor problem. That’s metal fatigue, and it’s fixable.
We’re an independent gate repair company in Los Angeles, not affiliated with Mighty Mule. But we work on their openers and gates every week, and Nico Alvarez, our owner, has been welding and fabricating gate hardware across LA for over a decade.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Most Mighty Mule openers bolt onto a steel or aluminum gate frame. The welding and fabrication side of the job isn’t about the opener’s circuit board. It’s about the metal the opener is fighting against. The common setups we see in Los Angeles include:
- Mighty Mule MM371W, MM372W, MM571W, MM572W (single and dual swing) – These mount to a bracket that’s either welded or bolted to the gate. When the gate sags, the bracket twists, and the opener’s push arm binds.
- Mighty Mule FM200, FM350, FM500 series – These are the heavier-duty kits often used on farm gates and long residential drives. The post bracket and hinge post take serious load. We see stretched or ripped welds at the post on these more than any other line.
- Older Mighty Mule 500, 502, and 350 series – Still all over the hills above Silver Lake and Echo Park. The original mounting hardware for these is often rusted through by now, especially within a few miles of the coast.
One compatibility gotcha: Mighty Mule’s tube-gate brackets are sized for 1 5/8″ to 2″ round tube. If your gate uses 2 3/8″ chain-link pipe or square tube, the factory bracket won’t seat right. We fabricate an adapter plate or weld a proper saddle mount in those cases. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for hinges and post brackets, a quality aftermarket steel part welded correctly will outlast a cast OEM bracket, especially in coastal Los Angeles air. For the opener’s internal components, stay OEM. For the metal it mounts to, fabricated steel wins.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes at the latch end. The hinge welds or hinge post have shifted. The opener is pushing against a gate that’s now fighting gravity. Fix the sag and the opener stops working so hard.
- You can see a crack in the weld or a hairline split at the bracket. That crack is growing a little every time the gate cycles. In Los Angeles’s hot-and-dry inland climate, powder coat hides fatigue cracks until they’re obvious. By the time you can see it, it’s time.
- The opener sounds normal but the gate barely moves, or moves then stalls. The push arm is binding on a twisted bracket. The motor is fine; the geometry is off. Forcing it will smoke the opener’s internal gears.
- The gate post wobbles when you push on it by hand. This is the hinge post failing at its base or the concrete footing cracking. The opener is now stress-loading a loose post every cycle. That’s a fabrication and re-set job, not a part swap.
- The opener’s mounting plate is pulling away from the gate or post. You’ll see daylight between the plate and the metal it should be flush against. The bolts are still there, but the metal around them is stretching. Before long, the bolts rip out.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we bill for these repairs in Los Angeles, parts and labor together, agreed in writing before any work starts:
| Job | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Cracked weld repair, single location (clean, prep, weld, grind, prime) | $225 – $325 |
| Hinge replacement and re-weld, per hinge (steel gate, standard weight) | $180 – $280 per hinge |
| Post bracket replacement or reinforcement plate, fabricated and welded | $250 – $400 |
| Sag repair with welded support gusset, plus gate re-alignment | $300 – $475 |
| Loose hinge post re-set in concrete with new fabrication | $350 – $600 |
The spread comes down to gate weight, access, and how much cleanup the old weld needs. A 14-foot steel driveway gate takes longer than a 6-foot walk gate. Every repair we do in Los Angeles carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the weld or fabrication fails within 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge. You get a written price before we touch the gate, and the price on the invoice is the price we agreed to. No surprises. Call (213) 322-1415 and Nico will tell you what you’re looking at.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things yourself before calling. Push the gate by hand and see where the movement actually is: at the hinge, at the post, or in the gate frame itself. Take a photo of any crack and check whether the gate post moves at its base. That tells us a lot over the phone.
What you should not do: Do not weld a gate that’s still attached to a Mighty Mule opener. The opener’s internal boards and the remote receiver can get fried by weld current if they share a ground path. We disconnect the opener before welding. Do not try to “reinforce” a sagging gate with a ratchet strap and call it done. And do not weld overhead or on a steep driveway without proper gear and someone holding the gate. If the weld fails while you’re under the gate, that’s a hospital trip. Let our techs handle it. We’re in and out the same day on most weld repairs. Call (213) 322-1415 for a straight answer and a free estimate.
FAQs
A properly welded and primed steel gate hinge or bracket repair in Los Angeles should last 10 to 20 years. The reality is that gates within a few miles of the coast in places like Playa del Rey or San Pedro rust faster, and inland heat in the Valley bakes off cheap paint. We prep and prime every repair, which is what actually extends the life of the job.
Yes, if the crack is in the steel and the surrounding metal is still sound. We grind out the crack, weld it, and often add a gusset plate so the load is spread over more surface. If the metal is rusted through or the frame is twisted, replacement of that section is the honest call. Call (213) 322-1415 and we’ll tell you which one you have.
Most single-location weld repairs are done in 1 to 2 hours. A full hinge replacement or post re-set might take 3 to 4 hours including concrete work. We’ll give you a written time and price before we begin, and we’ll text you photos of the work before and after. That’s the Relay Standard on every job.
Yes. Our trucks carry common Mighty Mule-compatible hinge sets, post brackets, and plate steel for gusset work. If your job needs a custom-fabricated adapter for an oddball gate frame, we fabricate it in our shop and return the next day to install it. We also stock replacement parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing openers, so if your Mighty Mule opener turns out to be part of the problem, we can handle that in the same visit.
