FAAC keypad and intercom repair in Los Angeles typically runs $185 – $540 installed, depending on whether we’re fixing the existing unit or swapping in new hardware. We stock FAAC-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and the wiring harnesses on our trucks, and in most LA neighborhoods we can get your entry system working same day. You’ll usually notice the failure the same way: the keypad beeps but the gate won’t move, or the intercom rings your phone but the voice comes through as static. Sometimes it’s the opposite, nothing beeps at all and you’re standing there punching buttons at your own driveway.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
Most FAAC residential and light-commercial keypads share the same core communication protocol, but the physical mounting and voltage specs vary by series. The big ones we see across Los Angeles are the FAAC XKP wireless keypad, the DigiKey DK-424, the KP-35 hardwired pad, and the FAAC 412/415/390 intercom modules. The compatibility gotcha is voltage: older FAAC boards run 24V DC keypads, while newer S450/S800 series boards expect 12V DC. Slap a 24V keypad onto a 12V board and you’ll fry the encoder chip in under a minute.
Before you call us, look at the back of the keypad or inside the intercom housing. There’s usually a small white sticker with the model number and a date code. If the sticker is gone or faded, take a photo of the front and we can match it by button layout and bezel shape. For older FAAC systems that are 15+ years old, we often recommend a quality aftermarket equivalent like the Doorking 1812 or a Viking-compatible unit rather than chasing down discontinued FAAC parts that cost more used than new, and arrive without warranty.

Signs Your FAAC Keypad & Intercom Is Failing
- Keypad accepts some codes but not others. This is almost always a worn membrane or failing tactile switches under specific buttons. The button physically clicks, but the contact beneath doesn’t close. We can rebuild the membrane on some models; on sealed units it’s a replacement job.
- Intercom rings but audio is garbled or one-way. In LA’s coastal salt air and Valley heat, the speaker cones and microphone capsules in FAAC intercom modules degrade faster than the boards. The amplifier keeps working, so the call connects, but the audio path is shot.
- Gate opens on its own after rain. Water gets into the keypad housing and bridges the switch contacts. This is more common in Westside and Pasadena hillside homes where morning fog condenses on metal housings. A dried-out keypad with cracked weather gasket is the usual culprit.
- Keypad lights up but gate doesn’t respond. This points to the data line or the receiver board, not the keypad itself. We test the keypad output at the control board with a multimeter before condemning anything, because a good keypad on a dead input is a $500 misdiagnosis waiting to happen.
- Intermittent function, works when it wants to. Loose terminations, corrosion on the ribbon cable, or a failing relay. Intermittent is the worst word in gate repair because it’s never the part you wish it was. We chase these with a process of elimination, not guesswork.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what FAAC keypad and intercom work actually costs in Los Angeles, parts and labor included:
- Keypad membrane rebuild or switch repair: $85 – $185. We clean the board, replace worn switches, and reseal the housing.
- New FAAC-compatible keypad (wired or wireless): $240 – $410. Includes programming all existing codes, mounting, and sealing.
- Intercom module repair (audio path): $150 – $280. Speaker, mic capsule, or amplifier component replacement.
- Full intercom module replacement: $330 – $540. New unit, wiring check, and phone line or VoIP integration testing.
The range depends on whether your FAAC system is hardwired or wireless, how many entry codes need programming, and whether the control board needs firmware-compatible addressing. Every job gets a written price before we start. If we open a housing and find the real problem is the control board, not the keypad, we stop and give you a new written number. The invoice matches the quote. And every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the same part fails within a year, we come back free.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Confirm the breaker for the gate is on. Look for obvious moisture or ant colonies inside the keypad housing. Try the keypad from the outside and the inside if yours is double-sided. That’s about where the safe road ends. FAAC keypads and intercoms run off low-voltage DC, so you won’t get a lethal shock, but if you wire a new keypad with reversed polarity you can toast the $400 control board in one attempt. That’s the expensive mistake we repair on a monthly basis, and it always costs more than the keypad swap would have in the first place. If you’re comfortable with a multimeter and have the FAAC wiring diagram for your specific board, the swap is doable. If you don’t, call us at (213) 322-1415 and we’ll be out with the right part, the right voltage, and a written price before a single screw comes out.
FAQs
In our experience across LA, a FAAC keypad lasts 7 to 12 years, and an intercom module lasts 8 to 14 years. Coastal homes in Playa Vista or Venice trend lower because salt moisture accelerates contact corrosion. Homes in the Valley trend lower too, because sustained triple-digit heat bakes the plastic housing and weakens the weather seals. If your system is past the 10-year mark and the keypad or audio is starting to act up, replacement is usually the smarter money. Call (213) 322-1415 and we’ll give you an honest assessment.
Sometimes, yes. If the problem is worn switches, a corroded ribbon connector, or a failing speaker capsule, we can rebuild the unit on the bench instead of replacing it. We’ll tell you straight if the repair makes financial sense, because on some sealed FAAC models the labor to rebuild exceeds the cost of a new compatible unit. We never push a replacement when a repair does the job. Call us and describe what it’s doing.
Most FAAC keypad swaps take 45 to 90 minutes on site, including programming and testing every entry code. Intercom module replacements run 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on whether we’re re-terminating the phone line or VoIP adapter. We schedule a specific arrival time, not a four-hour window, and you can track our technician live.
We stock FAAC-compatible keypads, intercom modules, wiring harnesses, and weather seals on our trucks, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. On the first visit we can usually complete the repair without a return trip. Tell us your FAAC model number on the phone and Nico will make sure the right part is on the truck before dispatch.
