We stock and install LiftMaster-compatible keypads and intercom modules across Los Angeles, with most repairs running $225 – $495 installed depending on which model you have and whether we’re swapping a keypad, a board, or the whole entry unit. Same-day service is available for most keypad failures. The typical way you find out: the gate works fine from the remote, but the keypad won’t accept your code, or the intercom stopped ringing the house, and suddenly a delivery driver is leaning on the horn outside your gate.
Nico Alvarez, owner of Calder Gate Repair Los Angeles, has pulled apart enough LiftMaster entry systems to know that half the “dead keypad” calls we get are actually a wiring or power issue about eight inches from the keypad itself. We explain what’s wrong before we quote it, and the price we write down is the price you pay.
Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To
LiftMaster’s keypad and intercom lineup spans three main series in Los Angeles: the older 39-series keypads (like the 3900 and 3940) that ran on 9-volt batteries, the 377LM/377MC wireless keypads still common on residential gate openers, and the newer KPR2000 and LMK series with backlit membrane keys. If your intercom is paired to it, you’re likely dealing with a Telephone Entry System – the most common in LA being the EL25 and the newer CAPXL cellular units.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha LiftMaster owners run into: wireless keypads are paired to a specific receiver frequency, and the 377MC (Security+ 2.0) is not backwards compatible with the older 377LM (Security+) openers. Buy the wrong one on the internet and it simply won’t talk to your gate. We match the part to your exact opener board before anything gets ordered.
OEM LiftMaster keypads run about $60 – $110 for the part alone. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for the 377 series and work fine in LA’s climate, but we’ve seen knockoffs whose keypads haze over within one summer of direct sun. For intercom boards, we strongly recommend OEM or a vetted replacement – cheap aftermarket telephone entry boards are the number-one repeat failure we see. Calder Gate Repair is an independent service provider, not affiliated with LiftMaster, so we’re free to tell you when the aftermarket part is genuinely fine and when it isn’t.

Signs Your LiftMaster Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. You’re entering the right code, the keys beep, and nothing happens. That’s usually a relay or receiver issue on the opener board, not the keypad itself. We test the keypad’s signal output before replacing anything.
- Some keys work, others don’t. If you have to press the “4” three times before it registers, the membrane pad is worn. This is the single most common LiftMaster keypad failure we see in Los Angeles, especially on gates with heavy daytime sun exposure. A membrane swap is quick and usually under $150.
- Intercom rings but you can’t hear the person outside. On LiftMaster telephone entry systems, this often points to a failing audio module or a corroded speaker connection. We’ve also found spider nests shorting the speaker terminals on more than one Valley gate.
- Keypad only works when you’re standing exactly in front of it. A weak or dying battery can do this, but so can a cracked internal antenna on the keypad. If a fresh battery doesn’t fix it, the antenna or transmitter needs replacing.
- You can hear a buzzing or clicking from the intercom box. This is a relay chattering, and it means the board is receiving power but failing to complete the circuit. Left alone, it burns out the relay and you’ll be replacing the whole board instead of repairing a connection.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what LiftMaster keypad and intercom work costs in Los Angeles, including the part and our labor:
- Keypad membrane replacement: $125 – $175
- Single wireless keypad replacement (OEM 377MC or equivalent): $225 – $300 installed
- Wired keypad replacement with new wiring: $275 – $375 installed
- Telephone entry board repair (EL25, CAPXL): $350 – $495 installed
- Full telephone entry system replacement: $850 – $1,400 installed, depending on whether we’re reusing existing wiring
The range comes down to which model you have, how accessible the wiring is, and whether we’re replacing a worn part or diagnosing a deeper board issue. Every quote is written down before we touch a single bolt, and it includes the part, the labor, and the trip. DIY or Call Us?
For a wireless keypad that just needs a new battery, you can absolutely handle that yourself – pop the cover, check the battery contacts for corrosion, and put in a fresh 9-volt. But anything past that, we recommend you stop. Wired keypads and telephone entry systems connect to your opener’s low-voltage board, and one crossed wire can fry the receiver or the entry board. That’s a $100 keypad mistake that becomes a $400 board replacement. We’ve also seen owners drill through conduit running inside the gate post, which is a bigger problem than the keypad ever was.
If your keypad is flickering, dead, or half-working, call Calder Gate Repair Los Angeles at (213) 322-1415. Live answers, written pricing, and the right LiftMaster part matched the first time.
FAQs
A LiftMaster keypad in Los Angeles typically lasts 5 – 8 years, with sun exposure and coastal salt air being the two biggest lifespan killers. Keypads on west-facing gates in Venice or Playa del Rey tend to fade and crack faster than the same unit in a shaded Hancock Park drive. Wireless keypads can outlast the membrane if you replace the pad before moisture gets into the board.
In most cases, yes – we can repair it. Keypad membranes, internal batteries, corroded contacts, and even weak antennas are all repairable for less than a full replacement. The exception is water intrusion into the main board, which is usually a replacement scenario. Call (213) 322-1415 and we’ll diagnose it honestly.
Most keypad replacements on LiftMaster systems take 45 – 90 minutes on site, including programming and testing. An intercom board swap usually runs 60 – 90 minutes once we’ve confirmed the model and source the right part. We stock the most common LiftMaster keypads on the truck, so same-day service is standard for most Los Angeles calls.
We keep the most common LiftMaster 377MC wireless keypads, keypad membranes, and EL25/CAPXL intercom parts on the truck. For less common parts, we’re typically installing within one to two business days. If your gate is stuck and safety is a concern, we’ll get you a functional temporary fix while the right part comes in.
